The most beloved entertainment legend in Australia wasn’t in the room at the Logies, but singing superstar John Farnham was the star of the show.

There was huge applause and cheers for our national music treasure as John Farnham: Finding The Voice, the acclaimed documentary charting the rollercoaster ride of his illustrious career, won Best Factual or Documentary Program.

Farnham’s sons Robert and James took to the stage to accept the Logie with the film’s producer and director on behalf of their father, who continues his recovery from treatment for mouth cancer diagnosed two years ago.

Glenn Wheatley’s wife Gaynor who had helped finish the film after the death of Farnham’s best mate with the support of her children Tim, Kara and Samantha, were also present.

Gaynor Wheatley said she hoped Farnham was watching at home and “Glenn is too” and paid tribute to the strength of Rob and James Farnham on behalf of their proud parents.

The award followed a stunning tribute to the beloved entertainer featuring Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian, fronting the Farnham Band.

The singer’s loyal musicians haven’t had an opportunity to perform his signature songs in public since his last appearance as the headliner of the Fire Fight Australia benefit concert in Sydney in early 2020.

Sebastian opened the tribute with the emotive Burn For You before Mauboy enlisted the crowd to join in on the rousing You’re The Voice with bagpipers stationed in the crowd.

Farnham has a long history with the Logies, picking up the Best Teenage Personality five years running from 1969-1973 when that award existed and another five trophies for the defunct Most Popular Music Video in the late 80s and early 90s.

Finding The Voice picked up the 2024 AACTA Award for Best Documentary and its soundtrack won the 2023 ARIA Award for Best Original Soundtrack, Cast or Show Album.

Finding The Voice was the highest grossing Australian documentary of all time when it hit cinemas last year and first aired on Seven last July and will screen again on Monday.
