Halle Berry has dropped an X-rated comment on morning television, leaving host Gayle King laughing hysterically.
The Hollywood star made an appearance on US breakfast show CBS Mornings to promote her new horror movie, Never Let Go, when the topic of discussion turned to relationships, ageing and menopause.
“I love that you’re talking about menopause because most people think menopause is dry vaginas, and you’re all done,” King praised Berry, who has been happily dating singer and producer Van Hunt since 2020.
The 58-year-old cheekily responded with, “It did mean that for a minute. Now I’m juicy like the peach!” before they both burst into laughter.
The camera cut to a commercial break before the pair returned on-screen composed to discuss the taboo subject of menopause.
The Oscar winner revealed that she learned she was on the verge of menopause in the “most horrific way”. Three years ago, she recalled being misdiagnosed with herpes “instead of a menopausal symptom”.
Doctors quickly discovered she did not have herpes, but instead was going through perimenopause – a period before menopause when a woman’s ovaries gradually stop working.
This prompted the mother-of-two to use her platform to help other women transitioning through menopause.
“That got me awakened to the idea that if I had this little information, I wonder what millions of other women don’t have,” she said.
“And then it just started snowballing and I realised that only we, women, can de-stigmatise this by talking about it, making it OK, talking about it with our husbands, our partners, our sons, our co-workers. We have to give them permission to talk about it also.”
In recent months, Berry has been very vocal about her new chapter, which she doesn’t see as a negative thing.
“I’m not ready to go out to pasture. I’ve got all this new stuff to do,” she said during a women’s wellness forum in New York in February.
“It’s not the end of anything. It’s actually the start of a new chapter of your life. As women … we have to reimagine what that is.”
The following month in March during a summit in LA with US First Lady, Dr Jill Biden, Berry said she was proud to be an advocate for women.
“My doctor had no knowledge and didn’t prepare me,” she said. “That’s when I knew, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve got to use my platform. I have to use all of who I am, and I have to start making a change and a difference for other women.’”
