SINGING superstars Ed Sheeran, Lorde and Ellie Goulding have offered their support to the New Zealand X Factor contestant whose performance was slammed so harshly by two judges they were later sacked from the show.
Joe Irvine’s performance of the song Cry Me A River was torn apart by married judges Natalia Kills and Willy Moon, who compared the young contestant’s appearance to fictional serial killer Norman Bates and branded his look “disgusting”.
The judges were removed from the show, with public sympathy swinging firmly behind Irvine.
Ed Sheeran was one of the first stars to express support on social media. His message has been retweeted more than 9000 times.
@jooe63_joe don't worry about what anyone else says man. Enjoy yourself with it, that's what singing is about, not what other people think

Grammy winning Kiwi star Lorde went even further, sending Irvine a box of cupcakes iced with the message “Keep being Joe”.
In an accompanying note she wrote: “Hi Joe, just wanted to say: your individuality, positive energy and spirit are infectious! I think you’re doing an awesome job on the show so far. I’m a performer too, and wanted to say that no matter how many people make fun of me for how I dress, move and act, I’m being me — and that’s what’s important. Good luck and lots of love, Lorde.”

English singer Ellie Goulding took aim at the judges.
Kills had accused Irvine of ripping off her husband’s look by wearing a suit, prompting Goulding to tweet: “You sort of have to be, you know, vaguely relevant to have your style stolen just saying.”
She later deleted that tweet, but offered another message of support.
Can't stop myself from commenting on NZ X factor situation because I can't stop thinking about how mean it was. Thank goodness they're gone

Two new judges will take over Moon and Kills’ teams from next week.
The other two judges, Stan Walker and Melanie Blatt, have been vocal in their support of Irvine.
After the criticisms of Kills and Moon, Blatt won a round of applause from the audience for saying “You know what Joe, I don’t think many people have believed in you. But I tell you right now, I believe in you”.
She has offered further encouragement on Twitter this week.
@melblatt I love u Mel ur my inspiration and remember to go hard on me this week I'm ready for this
