Russel Howcroft to celebrate 60th birthday party with men’s only event

3AW broadcaster Russel Howcroft has kept the invite list for his 60th birthday celebrations limited to a “gang of men” who he hopes will be at their “boisterous best” for a lunch and singalong.

Radio host Russel Howcroft will celebrate his 60th birthday with a men’s only lunch and singalong on Friday.

Howcroft, one half of 3AW breakfast with Ross Stevenson, is gathering 100 of his most significant mates.

“It’s a gang of men who’s been a big part of my life,’’ Howcroft told the Herald Sun.

“They’ve been significant in all sorts of ways — long term friendships to business relations, people I’ve been on the television with, people on radio and who I’ve done advertising with. I’ve been very lucky with different networks.

“I’m looking forward to buying them a meal and a few beers.”

Howcroft, whose birthday was mid-year, was urged to mark the milestone with a thank you to his nearest and dearest.

The last prominent Melburnian to host a men’s only bash was trucking magnate Lindsay Fox who regularly marks his birthday with a themed gathering.

“It’s going to be a singalong, five songs and I’m conducting it,’’ Howcroft said.

“I’ve invited a lot of fellas who I hope come in their boisterous best. There’s no theme, come as you are.”

Howcroft and Stevenson are dominating the ratings again, and broadcast from the Australian Open golf on Thursday.

Also celebrating a birthday this week, media mogul Craig Hutchison hosted a dinner on Thursday night at The Botanical in South Yarra.
