Popular radio host Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small has revealed his terrifying ordeal after burglars armed with large knives attempted to break into his Sydney home while he slept inside.
Speaking on his Nova radio show Smallzy’s Surgery Wednesday night, the commentator, 40, said he was left rattled by the incident earlier this week, in which four people dressed in balaclavas attempted to breach the locked doors of his multimillion-dollar home in Hunters Hill.
“Thank god for the ring camera, we got ‘em,” he said, later uploading footage of the break-in attempt on social media.
“There was four of these scumbags. They were wearing balaclavas and had these huge, 10-inch hunting knives. Scary as s**t, let me tell you.”
Smallzy confirmed the would-be robbers didn’t manage to break into the property.
In the footage, the perpetrators, all dressed in black, could be seen walking around a luxury vehicle parked in an outdoor garage, brandishing their knives as they attempted to find a way inside the home.
After an unsuccessful few minutes, the group fled.
Smallzy said they also tried their luck at his neighbour’s house.
Speaking to news.com.au, Smallzy revealed he was asleep in bed at the time of the break-in attempt at around 2.30am, blissfully unaware of what was going on.
His partner Zach La Cava, who is also the show’s executive producer, was also home.
The next morning, Smallzy noticed something “unusual” when he woke up to find his front gate was open.
“I saw a neighbour post that they had an intruder try and get into their house overnight, (and) piecing two and two together, I quickly checked my security camera footage and to my shock, spotted them,” he said.
“It’s so violating to know someone tried to break into your house while you were sleeping. I hope by sharing this it reminds people to be vigilant and helps catch the scum that do this to people.”
Smallzy, who rarely posts photos or videos of his private life on social media, purchased his five-bedroom house at auction for $3.7 million in March 2020.
In November, home crime data from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research revealed more than 20,000 incidents of home invasions and break and enters were reported in the state in the 12 months to March 2024, marking a four-year high.
The same data confirmed more than 8000 homes fell victim to break and enter incidents across Greater Sydney in the last financial year.
