Plus-size model Barbie Ferreira has shocked fans by posting a photo revealing her dramatic weight loss.
The actor and model, known for her role in the successful HBO series Euphoria, posted a photo of herself in a skin-tight brown dress on Instagram, and fans quickly pointed out that she looked slimmer.
Fans commented that she looked “skinny,” with some expressing their disappointment that she’d lost weight because she’s a plus-size model.
“Why (are) all of my role models are getting skinny? You gave me confidence and I started to love my body,” one fumed.
Others pointed out that no matter what size Ferreira was she’d never be able to escape scrutiny.
“When she was bigger people complained about her. Now she’s smaller people are complaining about her being slim,” one wrote.
“Reminder! You can lose weight drastically for a million different reasons as a woman,” someone else wrote.
“Crazy how people complain about people being overweight but when people lose weight it’s
a problem too,” another noted.
Despite the mixed response to the photo, the model hasn’t addressed her weight loss online at all. One reason there’s so much fuss about the weight loss is that she started her career as a plus-size model.
She also has amassed huge internet fame with over five million followers, and whether she liked it or not, she became a plus-size icon, a label she wasn’t that comfortable with.
The model told Vogue UKin 2020 that she wasn’t that interested in labels.
“Stepping into a career that has historically had rigid standards of beauty, people definitely projected me as this body-positive activist, and I owned that in the beginning. But over the years, I’ve found my own version of that, where it’s not just about size,” she told the publication.
She gained even more success for playing Kat on Euphoria but exited the show after season two.
In an interview with Dax Shepard for his popular podcast Armchair Expert, she said she left because she didn’t think there was a place for her character to go.
“I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show. I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that. I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either,” she said.
