Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home sees American Brian Dundee heading to Australia in search of his missing father Mick, where he has to channel his Aussie roots as he hunts for his dad in the Outback. Megastar Hemsworth, who spent several years growing up in the Territory, plays Wally Jr as local expert to help Brian find his dad.

He is the perfect fit to fulfil a main role in a new Dundee movie, filmmaker Emma Masters said. “Even though Chris Hemsworth would make a fine ‘son of Dundee’ I love the idea of him playing the guide to the Outback – and producers getting a US star to play the son. It would feel more authentic to the ‘fish out of water’ storyline,” she said.

Backpacker Jenna Bourke said Hemsworth would be ideal for a new Dundee film. “I’d definitely be on board with Chris Hemsworth playing the lead,” she said. “He’s Australian and he is very good-looking – I think it’d be a good cast.”

Local Brooke Morris said she would love to see the Hemsworth brothers in the movie.

“They should do a remake. I’d want to see the Hemsworths in it – they’re Australian so they would be good in it,” she said.

In an interview in 2012, Hemsworth revealed he spent some of his childhood at Bulman in Southern Arnhem Land and his earliest memories of life in the Top End were of buffaloes and crocodiles.

Luke Hemsworth, Chris’s brother, has also spoken of his family’s upbringing. “I grew up a lot in the Northern Territory – in the heart of iron land, in the middle of nowhere, in a tiny place called Bulman,” Luke said.

“My parents started off catching buffalo and fixing fences, and then they ended up running the little store in Bulman...”

Chris Hemsworth’s first Hollywood appearance was in Star Trek (2009) but it was his role in Thor (2011) which propelled him to prominence.

His uncle is Rod Ansell, the bushman who inspired the first Crocodile Dundee.
