British pop superstars Take That will return to Australia later this year, visiting our shores in October and November for a series of arena and winery dates across the country.
And they’re bringing another UK pop legend along for the ride: Sophie Ellis-Bextor, currently enjoying a chart resurgence with her hit Murder On The Dancefloor thanks to its appearance in the movie Saltburn.
Take That – aka Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen – recently released their ninth studio album, This Life. The group – along with original members Robbie Williams and Jason Orange – formed in the early 90s and soon became the biggest UK boy band of that decade.
Pray, Never Forget and the ubiquitous Back for Good are among the UK chart toppers that translated to big hit singles here in the 90s, before the band’s initial run fizzled out in 1996.
But it’s their second act, starting 10 years later, where the story gets interesting: Take That somehow became bigger than ever, selling almost 3 million copies of their 2006 comeback album Beautiful World in the UK alone.
From there, they’ve found continued success in a number of iterations: As a four-piece, as a five-piece when Robbie rejoined for the 2010 Progress album and tour, and in the past decade, as a trio.
Take That’s This Life On Tour will be the band’s first visit to our shores since 2017. Tour dates are as follows:
• Wednesday October 30: RAC Arena, Perth, with Sophie Ellis-Bextor
• Saturday November 2: Peter Lehmann Wines, Barossa Valley, SA, with Ricki-Lee
• Wednesday November 6: Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, with Sophie Ellis-Bextor
• Thursday November 7: Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney, with Sophie Ellis-Bextor
• Saturday November 9: Bimbadgen winery, Hunter Valley NSW, with Ricki-Lee
• Sunday November 10: Sirromet Wines, Mount Cotton QLD, with Ricki-Lee
• Thursday November 14: Spark Arena, Auckland NZ, with Sophie Ellis Bextor.
Frontier Members presale for the shows run from 3pm local time on Wednesday February 7, while general tickets go on sale 1pm local time on Tuesday February 13 via Ticketek (arena shows), Ticketmaster (NZ show) and A Day on the Green (winery shows).
