Pink’s fans struggle through Adelaide show in heatwave: ‘Many passing out’

Close to 60,000 fans watched the pop powerhouse perform at the historic Adelaide Oval, but they struggled in the heatwave.

Why do Aussies love Pink?

Close to 60,000 fans watched pop powerhouse Pink perform her Summer Carnival show at the historic Adelaide Oval on Tuesday evening – and they weren’t going to let a little heatwave get in the way.

Despite temperatures soaring well past 30 degrees Celsius, the singer got the party started by emerging from a neon sign 30 metres above the stage before somersaulting into the air and onto the stage in one of the biggest shows Adelaide has ever seen.

But the singer herself also felt the heat, telling the crowd - as reported by The Advertiser - “Oh my god. How the hell is everybody? Hopefully by seeing me wear a jacket it makes you feel colder.”

Throughout the night, Pink also reminded “every single person” to get water at the free water fountain stations at the oval.

“Is everybody hydrating? Are you ready to sweat?” she asked the crowd.

The Advertiser reports that one hour into her set the temperature was still a balmy 32 degrees Celsius, and by the time her concert wrapped and it was time for fans to go home around midnight via the nearby footbridge, some struggled as it was still 31.5 degrees Celsius.

The famed footbridge connects Adelaide Oval to the CBD and is only 8 metres wide and 255 metres long, turning it into a bottleneck for fans trying to cross.

One concertgoer told The Advertiser that the footbridge was “packed like sardines at a shuffle pace”.

“Two elderly women were taken back from the crowd to the Oval entrance area to sit and wait by ambos (they) appeared to have heat exhaustion,” they told the paper.

“Then an ambo had to disperse the crowd to get through into the loading dock under the Oval … another person was seen throwing up on the bridge.”

But it was nothing Adelaide Oval staff and ambulance officers couldn’t handle, with a fan taking to social media to thank them for their efforts.

“Special thanks though to all the Adelaide Oval staff, SA Ambulance Service and Red Frogs Australia for all their tireless work looking after everyone,” the fan wrote.

The singer’s husband Carey Hart and kids Willow and Jameson also made the trek.

“So many passing out and the support people were amazing.”

Pink also had rave reviews for the oval staff for their hospitality in allowing her to perform at the venue, which she climbed with her husband Carey Hart and their kids, Willow and Jameson, the day before her concert

“I got to climb this building last night and this is the most incredible venue I have ever seen,” the singer told fans at her show.

“I was looking out at the city today but I forgot how freaking beautiful it is. I’ve been coming here so long, it really feels like home. Thank you for bringing me here.”
