Sewage issues have forced the postponement of a major international concert in Perth.

Concertgoers waiting for Canadian pop-rock icon Bryan Adams were left stranded outside the venue for hours on Sunday, as fatbergs of gunk clogged sewerage systems along a main street in the Perth CBD.

The clogs meant toilets inside the arena were at risk of backing up.

The concert has been postponed, and Adams is due to play in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday this week.

Fans began posting images of thousands of concertgoers waiting outside Perth’s RAC Arena as the time doors were supposed to open came and went.

A general text message went out to ticketholders 30 minutes later, saying the show was delayed.

Down along Perth city’s major thoroughfare – Wellington St – water crews were dealing with major issues.

“People should avoid contact with any pooled water in the area of Wellington Street, Perth, as it may be sewage following a major blockage on a sewer main,” a Water Corporation alert read.

“As a priority, Water Corporation crews are working to clear the large blockage of fat, grease and rags, which has caused several wastewater overflows at properties along Wellington Street.

“Acting on public health advice from Department of Health, the Bryan Adams concert at RAC Arena this evening has been postponed due to the risk of wastewater backing up within the venue toilets.”

An RAC Arena notice on Monday morning says ticketholders “will be notified of an update as soon as possible and need not take any action at this point in time”.

Adams, 65, is the artist best known for (Everything I Do) I Do It for You, and Sumer of ’69. He is in the top 150 of all-time artists for total record sales.
