Jonas Brothers fans have been left fuming after tickets to the trio’s Sydney shows were allegedly given away for free.
The Jonas Brothers kicked off their Australian tour on Friday at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, playing crowd favourites like Burnin’ Up and Sucker.
The trio, who shot to stardom in 2008 after they starred in the movie Camp Rock, caused a stir when tickets went on sale last year, with the price of tickets (which ranged between $79.90- $987.85 for the Ultimate Wings VIP package) prompting controversy from fans.
Now, the American pop rock band are under fire once again as some claim tickets to their Sydney shows were given away for free right before they took to the stage on Friday and Saturday.
One “lifelong fan” posted a video to TikTok claiming tickets worth $250 were being sold for as low as $80 over the weekend.
“All these tickets have gone on sale, some were even free 10 minutes before the show last night,” she said.
“My ticket that I bought for like $200-250, general admission standing, is now like $80.
“I feel like I’ve been ripped off, like obviously I’m so excited to see the Jonas Brothers but is my ticket really worth it?”
Another posted the impressive view they had with what they claimed was a free ticket.
When commenters asked for proof, they replied they couldn’t access old tickets in their wallet.
However, others have chimed in to quash the backlash, saying this isn’t uncommon for shows that don’t sell out.
“This is what happens, shows don’t sell out … and then what happens is because who wants to play to an empty room, tickets go on sale,” another TikTok video stated.
“The tickets go on sale so we can fill up those arenas so it looks really wonderful and so the band gets to play for more people.”
They compared it to buying a top and having it later go on sale: “I can’t go back to the shop and ask for the rest of the money back because it’s gone on sale, that’s not how it works.”
Discounted tickets for concerts that haven’t sold out definitely isn’t a new concept, with many artists opting to sell tickets for a lower price as the dates grow closer.
Free tickets are a slightly different ball game, however lucky Taylor Swift fans were reportedly given free tickets by the megastar’s team, Taylor Nation, just before she took to the stage in Sydney.
The Jonas Brothers are set to play at Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre on Tuesday before playing two shows at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Friday and Saturday, with tickets still available.
The trio’s Australian tour promoter, Live Nation, did not respond to request for comment at the time of publication.
