Music legend Quincy Jones died of pancreatic cancer, according to the star’s death certificate, which was obtained by TMZ.
The 91-year-old died on November 3 at his Bel Air mansion in Los Angeles surrounded by his family.
A cause of death was not revealed at the time and it was not publicly known that Jones was battling cancer, Rolling Stone reported.
The legendary producer and composer was considered a giant of music over his lengthy career, working with stars including Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Ray Charles and Ella Fitzgerald.
Fans revelled in new footage of the star which came to light in the recent Netflix documentary The Greatest Night in Pop, which showed Jones as the mastermind behind the iconic We are the World anthem.
The 28-time Grammy winner was laid to rest at an intimate ceremony in Los Angeles on November 10 and all seven of his children, including actress daughter Rashida, along with his brother and two sisters attended.
In a statement, his loved ones said they were “enormously grateful for the outpouring of condolences and tributes from his friends and fans from around the world.”
A public memorial will be planned for a later date, according to the statement.
Daughter Rashida Jones paid tribute in a moving Instagram post last week, sharing a deeply personal memory as she described her father as “a culture shifter” and a “genius”.
“My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life,” the Parks and Recreation star wrote.
“He kept ‘jazz hours’ starting in high school and never looked back. When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him.
“Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music).
“He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work…there was no safer place in the world for me,” she added.
Rashida said that all of her father’s music and work “was a channel for his love.”
“He WAS love. He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy,” she wrote.
Jones was married three times and had seven children with five different women, including actresses Peggy Lipton and Nastassja Kinski.
