THEIR brand of Canadian lite rock has a tendency to get under the skin and grate on the nerves, leading to a global army of Nickelback haters on Twitter.

Now one music fan has taken it a step further, starting a fundraising campaign to keep the band out of London, NME reports.

Nickelback — fronted by Chad Kroeger — don’t even have any scheduled dates in the UK at the moment though a new album, No Fixed Address, is released by Nickelback next month.

But that hasn’t stopped music fan Craig Mandell from launching a pre-emptive strike to keep it that way, citing his inspiration as Nickelback’s “unlistenable music”.

On the Kickstarter page, titled ‘Don’t Let Nickel Back’, Mandell — who wants to raise $1000 — urges fellow music lovers to “ensure than the band do not schedule any gigs here, do not attempt to come here nor even phone here”.

“Just imagine, thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of music lovers all not witnessing an exclusive concert by Nickelback in London. It will be glorious. Legendary,” Mandell wrote.

Those who donate to the campaign have been promised an email sent in their name to the Nickelback’s management, “kindly requesting” that they do not play in London.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to charity, Mandell says.

“This campaign is not about personal profit. All proceeds will go to charity. Or perhaps therapy for those who’ve been affected by the band,” he said.

So far, the campaign has 14 backers and has raised $66.

Mandell’s friend, Andrew Goldin, successfully used the same method to bring the Foo Fighters to the US city of Richmond, Virginia in September.
