Michael J. Fox has stunned fans at the annual Glastonbury festival in England by making a surprise appearance during Coldplay’s record-breaking headline set.

Fans in the 100,000-strong crowd were left in tears as the Back To The Future actor, who has battled Parkinson’s for decades, appeared on stage in his wheelchair to play the guitar.

The 63-year-old star rocked out on stage with the band as they performed the moving songs Fix You and Humankind.

At one stage Coldplay’s emotional frontman Chris Martin kneeled down beside the star and bowed his head.

To the delight of fans, Martin credited the Hollywood star for being the “main reason” they are in a group.

He said: “The main reason why we’re in a band is because of watching Back to the Future, so thank you to our hero forever and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr Michael J. Fox. Thank you so much, Michael.”

British rocker Martin, 47, has previously hailed Fox’s performance as Marty McFly playing Johnny B. Goode on the guitar in the classic 1985 movie as a major influence when he was growing up.

Emotional fans took to social media after the performance, with one describing Fox’s role as “an unforgettable moment in Glastonbury history” while others admitted they were “in tears” and “bawling”.

British comedian Al Foran posted on X: “I’m genuinely confident that literally everyone on the planet universally loves Michael J. Fox, he’s an incredible human being and a childhood hero to so many, what a lovely touch from Coldplay.”

Another music fan posted: “Marty McFly himself, Michael J Fox on the Pyramid Stage ... I wasn’t ready for that, but I love it.”

It was a record-breaking appearance at Glastonbury for Coldplay, with the band becoming the first group to headline the iconic festival five times.

Fox was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars when he revealed his shock diagnosis in 1998.

Two years later, he created The Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000.

Since then he and his wife of 36 years, Tracy Pollan, have raised billions for Parkinson’s research.
