Liam Gallagher opens boxing at Wembley with widely panned performance

Liam Gallagher has delivered a “terrible” performance at the boxing in London, prompting fans to express concerns over Oasis’ big comeback next year.

Liam Gallagher has given Oasis fans a rather bland taste of what they’re in for ahead of the legendary British band’s comeback tour next year.

The lead singer, 52, delivered the opening performance ahead of the boxing match between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua at London’s Wembley Stadium on Saturday night, marking his first time onstage since Oasis confirmed their upcoming reunion tour, Oasis Live ’25, in late August.

But his set, which saw him sing Supersonic and Rock ‘N’ Roll Star, hasn’t lived up to the extreme hype, with fans taking the most issue with Gallagher’s somewhat shaky vocals, which multiple people labelled “atrocious”.

It also prompted many to express concerns after forking out hundreds of dollars for tickets to Oasis’ upcoming United Kingdom tour – their first shows together in 15 years following a lengthy feud between Liam and his brother, fellow founding band member Noel.

“Biggest fan going. But he sounded terrible,” one user wrote on X.

“Honestly thought he sounded awful,” another added.

“Sounded worse than my wife on karaoke,” a third wrote.

“Somehow missing out on tickets looks to be a good thing,” another chimed in, referencing fans’ difficulties getting their hands on tickets earlier this month.

Another joked “not one chair would turn on The Voice”, while another offered, “At this rate he wouldn’t even make The Masked Singer”.

Oasis, which first formed in Manchester in 1991, has been out of action ever since 2009 when the group last performed together at the V Festival in England’s Staffordshire.

Noel, now 57, sensationally quit less than a week later, saying he “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”, triggering a lengthy estrangement and all but killing hopes of a reunion as the pair continued to trade barbs at each other over the years.

The remaining members of the band – Liam, Gem Archer (guitar), Andy Bell (guitar) and Chris Sharrock (drums) – continued under the new name Beady Eye, until they broke up in 2014.

Releasing a statement in late August, Oasis wrote, “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised”.

Tickets for all 17 shows sold out within hours in early September.
