Singer Charli XCX has sent fans into a frenzy with her latest Instagram post, teasing a new duet partner it didn’t take people on social media too long to identify.
The British singer is riding high in the charts with current studio album Brat, and has been garnering more buzz for the album with a series of high-profile duet remixes of key tracks.
Next on the list is racy Brat bonus track Guess (sample lyric: “You wanna guess the colour of my underwear / You wanna know what I got going on down there / Is it pretty in pink or all see-through? / Is it showing off my brand new lower back tattoo?”), with a duet partner XCX’s fans quickly identified as Billie Eilish based on the single cover below:
“BILLIE?” wrote fan after fan under the post.
Eilish recently released her third album Hit Me Hard And Soft, and one fan noted that Guess would mark a new milestone for the star, eight years into her career: Her first guest appearance on a single from another artist.
So far this album campaign, XCX has released versions of singles Von Dutch with Addison Rae, 360 with Robyn, and most noticeably, Girl, So Confusing with Kiwi singer Lorde, who was the subject of the original song.
In Girl, XCX sang about an unnamed fellow female pop star with whom she’d always had awkward encounters (“I don’t know if you like me / Sometimes I think you might hate me”).
On the remix, Lorde told her side of the story, revealing she’d been struggling with her own problems including low self-esteem and an eating disorder.
More than a decade into her career, 31-year-old XCX is currently enjoying her biggest “moment” with her critically acclaimed new album – particularly in the US, where Brat has even been referenced as part of Kamala Harris’ Presidential campaign.
“Kamala IS Brat,” XCX herself tweeted when Harris was confirmed as the Democrats’ new Presidential candidate.
Soon after, the Harris campaign’s official HQ Twitter page turned its backdrop the same shade of “brat green” as XCX’s album cover, leading to many a media thinkpiece explaining what on earth was going on.
