Anthony Albanese has outed himself as a major Taylor Swift fan, revealing one of her songs helped him get him through a turbulent period on the campaign trail last year.
Appearing on Perth radio, the Prime Minister was peppered with questions about what was in his vinyl collection after hosting the Nova presenters at The Lodge in Canberra on Tuesday evening.
“I asked a question, I said, ‘Do you have a certain artist on vinyl’? And you said, ‘Yes, I do’. What was that artist, Anthony Albanese?” host Nathan Morris said.
“It was Tay Tay,” the Prime Minister responded.
“I think she’s terrific, and I think that she’s empowering of young women. If people actually listen to Shake It Off, the lyrics are fantastic. I think it’s, I quite enjoy her.”
It’s not the first time Mr Albanese has mentioned his appreciation for the song.
He first embraced the “shake it off” mantra following his trainwreck first day on the campaign where he was unable to answer questions about the cash rate and wrongly guessed the jobless rate.
Nova co-host Natalie Locke noted the lyrics acted as “good advice” for a politician.
“You’ve got to do that, exactly. You’ve just got to shake it off,” Mr Albanese added.
“I actually did that at one of the press conferences during the campaign where I got harassed over ‘do you regret you know, X’, I can't even remember what the issue was.
“And I was like, ‘Ah, you know, you’ve just got to shake it off’.”
Mr Albanese said his vinyl collection also included “a bit of U2, Angie McMahon, Radiohead”.
He’s not the first Prime Minister to share his love of US singer Swift.

Scott Morrison was also a big fan and according to social media attended the pop star’s concerts with his daughters in both 2015 and 2018.
He also invoked Swift’s lyrics to tell journalists to “shake it off” when they asked in 2015 if he had been plotting with Malcolm Turnbull to oust Tony Abbott.
