THE countdown is on: Disney has suddenly dropped the release dates of its most hotly-anticipated movies including Frozen 2, Star Wars: Episode IX and the live-action Lion King.
The studio announced on Tuesday the sequel to box office phenomenon Frozen will hit cinemas on November 27th, 2019, while the new Star Wars will be released on the 24th May that year.
Details about the new Frozen have been pretty scarce, although co-director Chris Buck recently hinted that it will see Elsa undergo a major character change.
“[In Frozen] she had such a dramatic journey, and at the end she’s just starting to feel like she can open up and have some fun again,” he told Fandango. “That’s what was really good about the short [2015’s Frozen Fever] — we could have fun with Elsa. And that personality ... you will see in the next one.”
The live-action Lion King remake (directed by Jon Favreau) will be out on July 19th in 2019 too — a huge year for Disney.
Meanwhile, the sequel to Wreck It Ralph — titled Ralph Breaks The internet — is slated for release on November 21 next year.
Also coming in 2018 is A Wrinkle In Time, on March 9th, while Steve Martin’s comedy Magic Camp arrives a month later on April 6th.
It comes as the untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie (directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford) is pushed back from its July 2019 release to July 10, 2020.
