Rust shooting: Police pull over Alec Baldwin, Hilaria after warrant issued for his phone

Alec Baldwin has been pulled over by police after investigators issued a search warrant for his phone in connection with the fatal shooting on the set of Rust.

Alec Baldwin: I'm not responsible for Rust death

Alec Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria, were pulled over by police in the Hamptons in New York on Saturday — two days after investigators issued a search warrant for the embattled actor’s mobile phone, photos show.

According to the New York Post, Baldwin, 63, was photographed sitting inside his car while Hilaria, 37, spoke with a police officer on the side of the road before pulling out her phone and showing the officer the screen.

Hilaria, a yoga instructor, was wearing a long green coat and a white baseball cap, and spoke calmly with the officer before returning to the vehicle, according to the US Sun.

It is not immediately clear why the couple was pulled over.

Baldwin also was photographed later as he stopped to pick up coffee and snacks while his wife remained inside their car.

Meanwhile, the father of Halyna Hutchins, 42, the cinematographer killed by Baldwin on the set of the Western film Rust, accused the actor of being “partially responsible” for her death.

Anatoly Androsovych, 61, told The Sun that he did not understand Baldwin’s claim that he killed Hutchins “without pulling the trigger” — and said he was concerned the actor deleted tweets after the tragedy.

“I can’t understand the behaviour of Alec. Why did he sweep out his tweets when it became clear the shooting was on rehearsal?” the former Ukrainian submarine commander said.

“And why did he fire the shot during the preparations? The revolver is the type of gun which doesn’t shoot before the trigger is pressed and Alec is partially guilty for causing that shot,” he said.

“It is clear to me Baldwin fired the shot from his hand so it’s hard for me to understand how he cannot be held partly responsible for my daughter’s death,” he added.

He also said he was unsure if his 9-year-old grandson Andros will “ever fully recover” from losing his mom.

“Andros is slowly getting back to life, but this is huge blow for all of us,” Androsovych said.

BALDWIN HITS BACK AT GUN RUMOURS

It comes as Alec Baldwin denied the claim in a search warrant for his mobile phone that he asked for a bigger handgun before he fatally shot the cinematographer on the set of his Western flick Rust.

“This, in fact is a lie. The choices regarding any props by me for the film RUST were made weeks before production began,” Baldwin wrote via his Alec Baldwin Foundation Twitter account, which has been largely dormant in recent weeks.

“To suggest that any changes were made ‘before fatal shooting is false,” added Baldwin, who linked a Newsweek article about an affidavit from Detective Alexandria Hancock that was included in the search warrant.

Authorities in Santa Fe, New Mexico, issued the warrant for his phone on Thursday local time as part of the probe into the death of Halyna Hutchins in October.

Investigators believe there are key conversations on the device related to what led to her death, the New York Post reported.

Baldwin previously told authorities they would need to get a warrant, according to the document, which was obtained by the New York Post.

The actor and the film’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, emailed back and forth about the type of gun to use in the scene, and “he said he requested a bigger gun,” according to the search warrant affidavit. He chose a “period” Colt with a brown handle.

Gutierrez-Reed told investigators she checked the gun following the shooting.

“She checked the cartridge which would have been the one fired and said the first one she pulled out didn’t have ‘that’ (pointing to the projectile end of a bullet),” according to the warrant. The other rounds in the chamber were dummy rounds.

Earlier this month, Baldwin said in a US TV interview that he “didn’t pull the trigger”.

Baldwin also claimed that someone else, not he, put the live round in the gun.
