Melissa George in Butterfly Tree has international premiere in Toronto

MELISSA George’s latest film is just one of the acts with a Queensland connection about to be featured at an international film festival.

QUEENSLANDERS will be on show at next month’s Toronto Film Festival.

The Melissa George-led film The Butterfly Tree, by Brisbane writer and director Priscilla Cameron, will host its international premiere at the film festival after it was added to the Discovery section for emerging talent yesterday.

It is a major coup for Cameron following the successful world premiere of the film at the recent Melbourne International Film Festival.

“We are absolutely thrilled to launch The Butterfly Tree internationally at such a prestigious festival … and we look forward to embracing the opportunities that this level of exposure offers,” she said.

George told Confidential she was so captivated by the Sunshine State, where it was filmed late last year, she would live there.

“Gosh I loved it,” she said.

“I could see myself living in Mt Tambourine, I loved it so much.

“It was beautiful, absolutely beautiful – minus the snakes and all the insects.”

Cameron will be in good company with the festival also set to premiere Margot Robbie’s latest film I, Tonya, in which the Gold Coast actor stars as Olympic figure skating champion Tonya Harding.

The feature directorial debut from Stephen McCallum, 1%, with a script by Matt Nable, will host its world premiere in the Discovery section while Simon Baker’s Breath will also screen.

The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 7-17
