AWARD-winning singer-songwriter Missy Higgins, electronc duo Peking Duck, indie band Safia and hip hop artist ILLY are some of the big names that will be taking to the stage at this year’s BASSINTHEGRASS.

The line-up for the Territory’s largest one-day music festival, now in its 18th year, dropped this morning and features a wide range of popular Aussie artists.

Other well-known acts part of the program include The Rubens, Boy & Bear, Violent Soho, The Jungle Giants, Hayden James and Thelma Plum.

Further national artists will be announced in coming weeks.

NT Major Events Company head of major events Sally Jarvis said the 2020 festival featured a slew of great Australian musical talent.

“People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS has become an iconic Darwin event and has earnt its spot as a must-do on the Australian festival calendar, attracting music lovers from all over the country looking to extend their summer and escape the chilly weather down south,” she said.

“Festival goers this year will be spoilt for choice with an outstanding line-up, an extra stage and the perfect vantage point for a famous Darwin sunset.”

Safia lead singer Ben Woolner said the band was looking forward to returning to the Top End for a second year.

“It’s always a treat to be a part of People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS. There’s a genuine appreciation for the music shown by both the audience and organisers,” he said.

“To have the opportunity to play an event of this calibre in a beautiful city like Darwin is a no brainer for us.”

Thelma Plum — who last month became the highest ranking indigenous artist in Triple J’s Hottest 100 — said she was excited about making her BASSINTHEGRASS debut.

“It’s the first time I have played the festival and I haven’t been to Darwin in literally years,” she said.

“It’s also the first time I get to play songs off Better in Blak in the Top End, which is super exciting.”

The 10 hour festival will be held at Mindil Beach, for the second time, on Saturday, May 23.

A third stage will be added this year after the 2019 event sold out and attracted a record crowd of 10,000 people.

General admission tickets are now available for $105 each. Fans can also snap up a limited number of VIP tickets on offer for $220.
