MINDIL Beach Sunset Markets will be postponed, amid fears of spreading COVID-19.

In a post on Facebook, market organisers said the beginning of the season, which would normally start at the end of April, will be delayed until the end of May.

“Unfortunately, due to current circumstances, the decision has been made by the Mindil Beach Sunset Market Association to postpone the opening of our 2020 season from the 30th of April to the 28th of May,” the post stated.

“The health and safety of the community is of paramount importance and we feel a social responsibility to act appropriately.

“We are closely monitoring the information and guidelines provided by the Federal Government and health authorities. Please note that the opening of the market on the revised date will only occur on the approval that it is safe to do so from health authorities.

“We will continue to provide update regarding the opening of the market as we can.”

Parap Village Markets are still planning on running this Saturday morning, however the association is taking it week by week.

Spokeswoman Kylie McCourt said the association was working with the NT Health Department.

“We’re very mindful of the health concerns and we’re liaising with the health department around social distancing and hygiene practices,” she said. Ms McCourt said the association would keep the community updated if it did decide to stop the markets.
