Despite starring in one of the most popular television shows in the world, Matthew Perry had a surprising figure to his name when he died according to his recently released will.

The Friends actor only had about A$2.4 million (US$1.5 million) in personal wealth, documents obtained by the US Sun have revealed.

Perry, 54, died on October 28 after drowning in the hot tub of his Los Angeles mansion following a ketamine overdose.

However, far from being short on cash, it seems Perry was instead rather generous with his money.

The will shows Perry put the bulk of his fortune in an A$180 million trust which will be shared between his father John, mother Suzanne Morrison, his half sister Caitlin Morrison and an ex-girlfriend.

Perry’s beloved ex Rachel Dunn was looked after in his will which the Friends star last updated four years after their break up.

Many were surprised that Perry, who is best known for playing the hilarious Chandler Bing in the sitcom Friends, left such a generous bequeath to the fashion student he dated from 2003 to 2004 beginning when she was just 19.

But in Perry’s 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing he calls Dunn “the ex-girlfriend of his dream”.

In addition to the Alvy Singer Living Trust – which Perry named after his favourite character from Woody Allen movie Annie Hall – his family will also to continue to receive book royalties and acting residuals from his estate.

Perry’s estate still receives an estimated A$30 million a year in residuals from Friends which ran from 1994 to 2004 and garnered a cult following.

Dun and Perry broke up amiably about the same time the hit show wrapped.

“There was no drama involved, just a commitment by Matthew to stay focused on his sobriety,” a source close to the former couple told People at the time.

The will was executed by Perry’s business manager Lisa Ferguson and Austin Powers star Mike Myers’ ex-wife Robin Ruzan.

Ruzan and Perry co-hosted game show Celebrity Liar with Ruzan in the 2010s.

Perry did not name any of his other former flames, which include Julia Roberts and Scream star Neve Campbell, in the will.

He also believed himself to be childless and deliberately excluded any potential offspring who may come out of the woodwork.

“I have intentionally omitted from this Will and the Trust any provision for any of my heirs, issue, relatives, or other persons who are not named,” the Canadian actor’s will reads.

“I also intentionally do not provide for any stepchildren or foster children that I now have or may later acquire.”

Perry’s haunting last Instagram post, made just five days before his death, is an abstract snap of the swirling waters of the hot tub which would later become his watery grave.

Fans still flock to the post daily reminding one another of their favourite memories of the funnyman.
