‘How do you top that?’: Guy Sebastian on steamy Robert Irwin’s undies shoot

With a hot new single out, singer Guy Sebastian knew he would face competition but didn’t expect semi-clad, python-wielding Robert Irwin to enter the fight for attention.

In a week where Australia’s favourite Guy Sebastian is going up against Miley Cyrus and Ed Sheeran with his new song, who knew Robert Irwin would dominate headlines around the world.

Sebastian’s hot new track, Maybe, is released this week, the same time as Cyrus put out new with End Of The World, and Sheeran dropped Azizam.

“That was out of left field,” Sebastian told The Daily Telegraph.

“I was here busy stressing about what Ed Sheeran and other big artists are doing. I was like, ‘okay, now Bruno (Mars) is probably going to come out with something’.

“And no, old Robert Irwin gets his abs out and reveals his massive python to the world. How do you top that? I don’t have neither.”

Sebastian was jokingly referring to 21-year-old Irwin’s shock Bonds underwear campaign that is spearheading its push into the United States.

The singer quit his post as a coach on The Voice Australia last year to dedicate 2025 to finally complete his first album in five years.

Maybe is the first taste of what’s to come with Sebastian having been working on the album for more than four years. The album is slated for later this year.

“I knew I just had to finish the record and give it all I could give it, otherwise I would be sitting there six years later and it is still not done,” he explained.

“All of the things I’ve been talking about doing, I just want to do it and give it a red hot go as possible. At least knowing that I threw everything at it and that if it fails, it is my fault and if it succeeds, I was at the helm. That has been pretty important to me.”

While some songs have taken years, Maybe was written in 15 minutes and recorded that same day.

“Maybe is about seizing the moment, being in a moment where your whole life you are told to be calm, be measured, don’t jump into things but then you’re like, this is not one of those times, this is the time to go full immersive mode running in (to) skinny dip.”

And yes, Sebastian has skinny dipped.

“Who hasn’t?” he laughed.

“At a mates house or something, everyone has skinny dipped at some stage.”
