Erin Molan takes on bizarre new X hosting gig after call-out from Elon Musk

The Australian TV host has announced she’s taken on a new position after billionaire Elon Musk put a call-out on social media.

Just weeks ago, Elon Musk asked his followers if someone would put their hand up to make a show called ‘69 Minutes’ on his social media platform, X.

Now, in a bizarre turn of events, Australian presenter Erin Molan has announced she’s the host of the newly-created series.

Premiering February 23 in the US, the weekly online news show claims to “deliver hard hitting news from journalists around the world”.

Musk, 53, had pledged to fund the production of the bulletin in his call-out post on February 7.

“Anyone want to create a hard-hitting show on X called 69 Minutes? I will actually fund it!” the Tesla co-founder wrote.

How Molan, 41, came to be involved is a mystery, though US social media personality Mario Nawfal, who hosts his own social media show, announced he was bringing it to audiences in a post shared Saturday.

“The next nail in legacy media comes smashing down …. Inspired by @elonmusk and hosted by @erin_molan,” Nawfal, 30, wrote.

“Served unfiltered, unbiased and raw. EVERY SUNDAY AT 4:20pm ET I bet we get higher ratings than the other old hack of a show that ‘shall not be named.’ We are the media now.”

Molan, a former Channel 9 presenter and Sky News host, re-shared Nawfal’s post across her social media accounts, simply writing, “Little bit of news.”

In the comments, she said she believes the show will air in Australia on Monday morning.

The mother-of-one has been busy presenting her own news and analysis videos on her YouTube account since December, shortly after finishing up with Sky News where she hosted her Friday Erin at 5 program.

While speculation swirled at the time her pro-Israel views were to blame for her departure, a false rumour which was swiftly shut down by Sky commentators, Molan later told news.com.au “budget” was the reason for her show coming to an end.

Months prior, the presenter also lost her gig on Sydney commercial radio company SCA’s 2DAYFM in August when the company axed the Hughesy, Ed & Erin breakfast show due to poor ratings.

The TV star first shot to notoriety as a news reader for Channel 9 sport, before being tapped in 2014 to co-host The Footy Show alongside NRL legend Paul Vautin.

Molan enjoyed an extended break in the US last month, taking to her Instagram with several photos from her trip.

“I had a window when my daughter was away on holidays with her dad … I took it. Incredible experience in the States – thanks to all who made it so special Xx.”

Meanwhile, Molan is set to speak at several events across Canada in March for the Jewish Civil Rights group, Tafsik Organisation.

“I’ll be in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, can’t wait to meet you all,” Molan said in a video posted to LinkedIn Saturday.

“It’s obviously a fairly intense subject matter but I feel like meeting people, talking about it, sharing really helps in this space.”
