Australian entertainer Natalie Bassingthwaighte has lashed out at trolls on social media who have made negative comments about her red carpet debut with her girlfriend.
Last month, the star walked her first red carpet with partner Pip Loth, nine months after coming out publicly about being in a same-sex relationship.
However, sadly for Bassingthwaighte, not every comment about the pivotal moment were positive.
In a post on social media, she called out people who “judge” her, and said that the kind of comments she’s been getting could drive someone to suicide.
“It was brought to my attention yesterday that some people felt the need to comment on my post with my girlfriend. It was intentionally malicious,” she wrote in a lengthy Instagram post.
“My page is for people who want to feel loved and supported. Who don’t judge. Who don’t belittle or make people feel like a bad person.
Bassingthwaite went on to share that her mental health has been a “struggle” for her on almost a daily basis and hit out at trolls who have pushed some of those closest to her to take their own lives.
“My mental health has been a struggle and I have come out the other side but I manage it daily! I have had close dear people commit suicide because of people like you! Enough now!
If you don’t have anything nice to say to people don’t say anything at all! My mum taught me to always treat people how you would like to be treated and to me that is with love, kindness, respect and without judgement.”
She continued: “How dare you suggest I am not a great mother or a great person or comment on how I look! It has taken me a long time to love who I am and I will not let you take that away.”
“I won’t lie, your hurtful comments set me back but I will be brave again, pick myself up as I always have and move forward.
“To comment on my relationship with my partner, my ex and my children is uncalled for. We have all worked incredibly hard to get where we are and I am proud of all of us for that. We are safe we are happy and we are well.”
The actress-turned-singer insisted that she “forgives” trolls who target her, and urged them to find peace within themselves rather than hitting out at others.
“For people in my past that have done me wrong I have forgiven them. For mistakes I have made I have forgiven myself. And for your attack, what you have said I forgive you
I can only imagine what you have been through, and for that I am sorry. I only hope that you take this and look inward and do the work.”
The couple publicly confirmed their surprise relationship in November when Loth shared a touching tribute to the Aussie singer and actress.
“Appreciation post for the most incredible woman who is not only giving me strength, support, love and immense joy, but is teaching me to understand and accept that I am deserving of these things and have them within myself too,’ Loth wrote via Instagram in November. “She’s teaching me to breathe deeply, to trust and to be my truest self. I am so incredibly lucky and overwhelmingly grateful for you.”
