Zero Point is an indigenous super hero from Darwin.
He can fly, he can change the density of different objects according to the situation he’s in, he can manipulate zero point energy, and he does it all in Melbourne.
Zero Point is the brainchild of indigenous Darwin artist Jonathon Saunders, who has spent countless hours working on the comic being exhibited at Mayfair Gallery for this year’s Darwin International Film Festival.
“I wanted to have an indigenous super hero that didn’t fall under stereotypes of him being a boomerang wielding, red bandana-wearing character that got his powers from the dreaming,” Saunders said.
“This character is following in the footsteps of his estranged father, who was a super hero in the ’80s, but of course he’s trying to deal with his own trauma from events that happened in Darwin.”
The project is aiming to bridge the gap between comics, story board and film.
“It’s no secret a lot of films now are being adapted from comics and I want to work in animation and use the work I publish online in a TV series or a possible film,” Mr Saunders said. “The exhibition is really about chunking out a story based on a script, so you know what things will look like on the screen.”
Zero Point is open until September 25 at Mayfair Gallery on Harriet Street.
