Conspiracy theory: Avril Lavigne has been replaced by a doppelganger

AVRIL Lavigne’s private life has dominated recent headlines, but that hasn’t stopped the flow of totally bonkers conspiracy theories.

ELVIS is still alive but sadly Avril Lavigne is dead, according to a recent conspiracy theory website about the Canadian punk songstress.

The “Sk8er Boi” singer died more than 10 years ago, claims a Brazilian blog, and she’s been replaced by a lookalike named “Melissa Vandella”.

The website, AvrilEstaMorta.blogspot.com (which means “Avril is dead” in English), compares numerous photos of the singer to “prove” that the real Avril Lavigne has been replaced by a fake, reports NY Daily News.

It points to changes in her birthmarks, moles and even pimples in attempt to show the difference between Avril and “Melissa” (because pimples never go away and no celebrity ever uses Photoshop). The site also claims that the singer has shrunk since 2002 from 1.58m to 1.55m and now has a different nose shape.

The site analyses her handwriting and even her voice (yes, that’s changed too apparently) in attempt to make its case.

If that’s not enough, the writer points to song titles and lyrics of Avril’s songs such as “My Happy Ending” and “Nobody’s Home” as further evidence that the Canadian star committed suicide years ago after caving under the pressure of fame and falling into a pit of depression.

When her family and management discovered her death, they covered it up and found a lookalike to take her place (naturally), reports Noisy Vice blog.

And get this: There’s even a photo of Avril with the name “Melissa” written on her hand. What more proof do you need?!

Definitive proof? ... A photo of “Avril Lavigne” with her body double’s name, “Melissa”, written on her hand.

Convincing, right? Not so much. The creator of the site has even come out and said it’s not true. In a post uploaded to Facebook he said he was just trying to make a point about how people will believe anything they read online.

Meanwhile, the real Avril Lavigne has bigger things to worry about. Last year, the 31-year-old was diagnosed with Lyme disease (a bacterial infection that can cause serious pain and neurological problems) and is currently busy focusing on her recovery.

Just kidding ... Turns out it was all made up. Who knew?! Picture: blackbag.gawker.com
