Julia Fox deserves her flowers for this one.
The Uncut Gems actress appears in Yayoi Kusama’s “Flower Obsession,” which is on display as part of the artist’s exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.
In footage Fox shared on Instagram, she reclines on a bed of red flowers while wearing a completely sheer catsuit with a few strategically placed blooms, à la Mena Suvari’s iconic dream sequence in American Beauty.
The outfit was designed by Melbourne-based label Wackie Ju and assisted by Jonty Knight.
With the help of stylist Briana Andalore, who was also assisted by Knight, the New Yorker teamed the sultry piece with red strappy pumps from Matea Gluščević.
Meanwhile, John Novotny was the mastermind behind Fox’s towering curly updo, which was festooned with matching red flowers.
The star’s Victorian-style makeup — courtesy of Meg McConville — was the cherry on top of an already iconic fashion moment.
“Still can’t wrap my head around this moment,” Fox captioned a post of her American Beauty-inspired look.
Fans were blown away by the mesmerising reinterpretation.
“Mother continues to Mother™️,” one follower wrote. Another added, “imagine being a muse for yayoi kusama …. you are ethereal.”
And it’s clear that American Beauty star Mena Suvari approved of the homage; “This is so incredibly beautiful and wonderful to see how this film continues to inspire. Thank you for thinking of me and for all the love and support. Means everything,” she commented.
Last week, for the NGV Gala in Melbourne, the style muse slipped into an exquisite silver chainmail dress created by Catholic Guilt.
The swoon-worthy gown was inspired by Kusama’s mirror installation titled “Chandelier of Grief.”
How’s that for life imitating art?
