Australian singer Jack Vidgen has given his fans a glimpse at the mixed feedback he receives for his high-glam red carpet looks.
Former Australia’s Got Talent winner Vidgen was in attendance at the opening night of the Beauty and the Beast musical in Sydney recently.
Vidgen, 26, walked the red carpet in a full face of make-up, wearing a floor-length silver beaded Camilla gown, complete with matching purse.
As he shared on his Instagram stories, his choice of attire can elicit some extreme reactions.
“I really don’t get it!!!” one person wrote under his Instagram post showing his preparations for the event. “Me too,” another chimed in.
“Good news dolls, no one gives a f**k,” Vidgen quipped.
There were also some enthusiastic supporters: “This dress. I wanna bend you over in it,” was one
Vidgen explained his glam new look to his followers back in March, telling fans that while he’s “having fun” exploring his “feminine side,” he still uses male pronouns.
It came after he had turned heads at a number of recent red carpet events, stepping out in full make-up, designer dresses and heels.
“Just wanted to say a major thank you to everyone who’s been hyping me up/cheering me on while I’ve been glamming it up lately and exploring my feminine side,” he wrote on Instagram at the time, addressing the speculation about his new look.
“For everyone wondering I still identify as He/Him. I’m literally just having fun. We as a society have gendered fashion and the more I’m dressing like this, the more I’m uncovering and releasing myself of my own internalised homophobia as a gay man.”
Despite the support from his fans, Vidgen revealed he’d also copped a lot of negativity online – mostly via his TikTok account – and posted a screenshot showing a selection of the vile comments.
He also told his followers he would “continue to push the boundaries and break the mould” with how he dressed.
“No one should have to tone themselves down to make the rest feel comfortable. We don’t belong in their boxes!”
