Dua Lipa has made a dreamy, creamy splash at the 2023 Met Gala, wearing an archive couture dress by Karl Lagerfeld.
The Don’t Start Now singer is the co-chair of this year’s star-studded event, which honours the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new exhibition ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’.
She paid the perfect tribute to the iconic German designer, wearing a cream and white tweed bridal gown from the Chanel 1992 archive.
Speaking to Vogue, Lipa described the experience wearing the “very special dress” as a “dream come true”.
“It’s been on my mood boards forever and when the opportunity came I was just like: is there any way I can find this dress? And the patrimony at Chanel was very kind and allowed me to borrow it for tonight,” she said.
“It’s a big dream come true for me.”
The same design was originally warn by supermodel Claudia Schiffer – Lagerfeld’s muse and protégé – for the fall 1992 couture collection.
Paired with the dress was a showstopping Tiffany & Co diamond necklace featuring more than 100 carats.
The necklace features Tiffany’s new Legendary diamond, set on the label’s Lucida Star necklace. Lipa is the first star to wear the dazzling white stone, which pays homage to the brand’s iconic yellow diamond with its near-identical cushion cut.
According to the label, Vogue reports, the diamond is D-coloured, features 82 facets and is responsibly sourced from Botswana.
Only four women have worn the original Tiffany diamond that it pays homage to.
Socialite Mary Whitehouse was the first to wear it in 1957, followed by Audrey Hepburn – who wore it for 1961 publicity shots for Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Lady Gaga wore it at the 2019 Academy Awards and, in 2021 Beyoncé donned the gem in a 2021 Tiffany & Co campaign.
Lips was one of the first arrivals at the legendary Costume Institute fundraiser. She is co-hosting this year’s event with Vogue editor Anna Wintour, British screenwriter and actress Michaela Coel, Spanish actress Penélope Cruz, and Swiss tennis master Roger Federer.
