A worrying photo of Liam Payne standing on the balcony of his apartment building has resurfaced online in the wake of his death.
The One Direction star shared the photo on Twitter back in 2014, showing him standing on a ledge on the 34th floor of the building in East London.
The photo was reportedly taken after a night out partying for his bandmate Zayn Malik’s 21st birthday bash after which Payne decided to balance himself on the edge of his luxury abode, 110 metres from the ground.
Naturally, the dangerous stunt sparked concerns among fans who were frightened for the singer’s safety.
“Can you stop giving us heart attacks? You’re not really Batman babe,” one tweeted at the time, while another wrote, “That photo of @Real_Liam_Payneon that balcony really gave me a mini heart attack ... please don’t do that again!”
After his antics copped some backlash, Payne was quick to delete the image and issue an apology.
“You may have seen a photo of me today, taken on top of a building,” he began in a tweet at the time.
“I regret being there and having a photo taken of me. I do not endorse any fans trying to repeat this as it is extremely dangerous.
“It was a stupid and irresponsible thing to do. I am sorry.”
The post also inadvertently gave away his home address, with fans able to figure out where he lived from the London skyline in the photo’s background. Fans then began turning up to the boy bander’s apartment block in droves.
“I know my friends have tweeted a lot of pictures of my house the past few days but can people please stop coming and waiting outside,” he pleaded in a follow-up tweet.
“I’d just like to be able to walk outside as everyone does and enjoy time with my friends, not feel bad for not wanting to take a picture.
“Sorry if I’ve been rude to anyone but I’ve come to realise if I take one picture more people keep coming everyday xxx hope everyone’s good.”
On Thursday, Payne fell to his death from the third floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31. It is not known if the fall was intentional.
The singer was found in the courtyard of Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood where police believe he fell 14 metres and suffered “severe injuries which were incompatible with life”.
Alberto Crescenti, who is head of the state emergency medical system, spoke on Argentina’s Todo Noticias TV channel, saying that authorities were investigating the circumstances of Payne’s death and would conduct an autopsy.
