Eagle-eyed royal fans were quick to spot a surprising detail in a new picture of Prince Christian and his mother, Queen Mary.

Prince Christian of Denmark has subtly unveiled his “new name” after fans spotted a surprising detail in a picture of the royal.

Fans of the royals spotted the Crown Prince’s military name, now known to be “Trekroner”, displayed on his uniform during a recent outing.

The meaning behind the name is “three crowns”.

Patrick Kjellerup, press officer at the Guard Hussar Regiment, told BT News: “Trekroner is a name that has been given to the Crown Prince by the Life Company. It is normal and an old hussar tradition that you are named after the city you come from.”

The Prince’s choice of name is different to his father’s, King Frederik, who went by “Crown Prince Frederik” on his military uniform.

Prince Christian has been serving in the military for the last few weeks, and the monarchy shared details of his experience in an Instagram post.

“For over a month, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince has been serving as a military officer at the Guards Regiment in Slagelse,” read the post. “The company’s families were today invited to a visiting day at the barracks, where the Royal Family got the opportunity to experience the Crown Prince in his new setting and meet the rest of his co-recruits at.”

“It is a long tradition that members of the Royal House serve military duty in the Armed Forces. His Majesty the King has completed military service himself, and in 1988 the King was, among other things, a platoon leader at the Guards Regiment.”

Meanwhile, last month the Prince’s mother, Queen Mary, shared that she had been feeling “overwhelmed” after ascending to the throne.

“It is very new and there are many changes and decisions,” she said of the she and her husband becoming the country’s rulers, before gushing over the moment her husband had been proclaimed King in January.

“I stood with the children and when you stepped out onto the balcony towards your fate, it was a moment that moved me incredibly much.

“We could hear and feel it, even if we couldn’t see it. It was a beautiful moment. I was both very happy and very proud.”
