Meghan finally reveals story behind her and Harry’s nicknames for each other

Meghan finally revealed the reason behind her and Harry’s affectionate nicknames for each other during a very candid interview.

Meghan Markle has shared the reason she and Prince Harry call each other “M” and “H”, revealing it goes all the way back to when they first met.

The Duchess of Sussex sat down with IT Cosmetics co-founder Jamie Kern Lima, who is one of her close friends, for her first guest appearance on a podcast. There she said the nicknames were part of their secret “code” when they were keeping their new relationship under wraps in 2016.

“Probably at the beginning of us dating, when everything was in code,” Meghan said.

“People didn’t know we were dating for, talk about memory lane, so long ago. I mean, it’ll be our seven-year wedding anniversary soon. I couldn’t tell anyone who I was dating, and who was keeping [the secret], so I think we were just on a letter basis.

Adding that the nicknames just “stuck”, she added: “I like it. I love nicknames”.

Meghan revealed new details of her and Harry’s personal life during the chat.

Meghan first publicly referred to her husband as “H” in 2019 during their official royal tour in South Africa, and both she and Harry regularly called each other by the nicknames during their Netflix docu-series in 2022.

During the podcast interview, Meghan also gushed over their marriage, confirming she believed they’d be together “forever”, despite swirling speculation in recent years.

“H, that man loves me so much and you know, look what we’ve built, we’ve built. We have built a beautiful life and we have two healthy beautiful children,” she said.

“I always think about it, when you get the end of Super Mario Bros, the final level and what’s the goal in Super Mario.

“It’s to slay the dragons and save the princess. And that’s my husband, he just out there and constantly doing whatever he can to make sure our family is safe and protected and that we are uplifted – and still make time for date nights.”

Meghan also giggled as she described him as “a fox” and “very handsome”.

She insisted that they are now more in a “honeymoon” phase than ever before, describing how they were forced to go “into the trenches” when they began dating and she first joined the royal family.

“You have to imagine, at the beginning it’s all butterflies – but then we immediately went into the trenches together,” Meghan explained.

“Right out of the gate, like six months into dating.

“So now seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way. And that’s why I feel like it’s more of a honeymoon period for us now.”
