The 14 notable Australians who will attend the King’s Coronation

The list of prominent Australians who will witness the coronation of King Charles III in London has been revealed.

Some of Australia’s most prominent athletes, artists and advocates will join Anthony Albanese at the Coronation of King Charles III.

The 14 special guests will join the Prime Minister, Governor-General David Hurley and the all state governors at the historic event in London next Saturday, May 6.

Mr Albanese said football star and Matildas captain Sam Kerr will be the Australian flagbearer at the Coronation.

“I’m honoured to represent Australia at the Coronation of the King and the Queen Consort, a historic occasion. I am proud to join a group of remarkable Australians who will also attend the Coronation, showcasing our truly diverse and dynamic nation,” Mr Albanese said.

Other notable Australians who will be part of the contingent include singer-songwriter Nick Cave, comedian Adam Hills, opera singer Yvonne Kenny and Jasmine Coe, who runs the first and only Aboriginal-owned art gallery in the UK.

Australians who were integral in the Covid-19 response will also be in attendance with Professor Meryn Voysey who helped develop the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and Emily Regan who worked for the UK’s National Health Service during the pandemic.

Victoria Cross recipient Corporal Daniel Keighran and Cross of Valour recipient Richard Joyes will also join the group.

“Outstanding Australians have been chosen to show the world the best of our values: caring for others, serving community and championing progress,” the government announcement said.

Billions of people are expected to watch the Coronation of King Charles.

Mr Albanese’s partner Jodie Haydon will also be part of the contingent.

On Saturday May 6 and Sunday May 7, significant buildings and monuments around Australia will be illuminate in Royal purple.

Mr Albanese will also meet UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during his visit to the United Kingdom from Tuesday May 2 until May 6, where they will discuss the AUKUS agreement and trade.

“We will discuss the Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement, which will shortly enter into force, and will deliver benefits for Australian exporters, Australian workers and our economy more broadly,” Mr Albanese said.

“I will meet with the highly trained and skilled workers at the Barrow-in-Furness shipyard, who will be an important part of helping Australia acquire nuclear-powered submarines through AUKUS.”

Mr Albanese will highlight Australia’s high level of ambition on climate change and the mutual economic benefits of our clean energy transition.

Public speaker and Rhodes Scholar Yasmin Poole will also attend the Coronation.
