One of the royal family’s hardest-working members is set to take on a highly prestigious role during the coronation, it’s been revealed.

King Charles III has given his sister, Princess Anne, a starring role in his upcoming coronation, as thanks for her “unwavering devotion”.

According to The Sun, Anne, 72, will be the Gold-Stick-in-Waiting during the procession at the May 6 event, which means she will be entrusted with the “safety of the monarch” – a role which dates back to the 15th century in Tudor times.

The historic position will see her travel on horseback behind the newly crowned King and Queen in their gold state coach following the Westminster Abbey ceremony, leading 6000 armed services personnel.

A source told The Mirror the Princess Royal was “incredibly honoured” at being chosen for the significant role.

“The direction of the King’s decision is clear for all to see,” the insider said.

“He is rewarding the Princess Royal for her loyalty and her unwavering devotion to duty above all else. The King values his sister as a trusted lieutenant and this is the perfect example of such a relationship.”

The latest coronation development follows news that with just over a week to go until the big day, Prince Harry is reportedly still in the dark about where he’ll be seated during the ceremony.

According to Page Six, despite the Duke of Sussex’s requests for seating information ahead of his decision to attend, Buckingham Palace has so far not shared any details with him.

Earlier this week, Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell – who was accused by Harry and Prince William of “betraying” their mother by publishing her private letters – claimed he was likely to be stuck in the “10th row” for the May 6 ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

“Harry has not been told where he’s sitting yet, but I highly doubt that [it’s as far back as the 10th row],” the source hit back to Page Six.

“Harry’s going to show up to support his dad. All I know is that it’s a stretch to ask much more for him … he doesn’t have any sort of agenda other than just getting in and getting out.”

It was confirmed earlier this month that Harry would be attending the May 6 event alone, with his wife, Meghan Markle, remaining at home in California with their two young children Prince Archie, 3, and Princess Lilibet, 1.
