Chris Hemsworth and his wife, Elsa, were among the stars to come out in force for Thursday night’s premiere of the new Mad Max movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, in Sydney.
Sydney’s State Theatre provided a glamorous setting for the red carpet premiere of the film, which was shot in the outback here in Australia.
Hemsworth, who plays the villain the highly-anticipated action thriller, was also joined by co-star Anya Taylor-Joy, who stars in the movie’s titular role as Furiosa.
Hemsworth looked handsome in a checkered black suit as he stepped out to celebrate the release of the blockbuster, with his wife, Spanish model Elsa, by his side looking glamorous in a chic black lace gown.
Hemsworth, 40, and Pataky, 47, have been married since 2010, having three children in that time.
But despite their best efforts, it was the quirky Taylor-Joy who stole the show as she turned heads in an extravagant gold outfit that she paired with a dramatic headpiece.
The award-winning actress showed off her slim physique in the backless dress, showing glimpses of her G-string underneath the sheer material.
Director George Miller’s follow-up to the 2015 box office hit Fury Road is expected to be one of the biggest films of the year.
Furiosa follows Taylor-Joy’s character as she seeks revenge for trauma inflicted by the cruel Dementus, played brilliantly against type by Hemsworth, who has spent years playing the superhero Thor.
Hemsworth looks virtually unrecognisable in the movie’s trailer, with long hair, a beard and what appear to be facial prosthetics. Director Miller recently joked at the Warner Bros 2024 CinemaCon in Las Vegas that Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy were so good in their roles he had trouble recognising them out of costume.
“They’re complete frauds to me after I spent a year in the cutting room,” he said.
The acclaimed director added that both actors had the perfect combination of charisma and endurance for the tough roles.
“Anya is resolute, disciplined and very smart,” he added.
The highly anticipated film acts as a prequel of sorts to Fury Road, which earned six Oscars, exploring the origins of the Furiosa character.
Hemsworth shot the film at home in Australia after Miller was able to make his movie in the outback of regional New South Wales.
The first film in the series had been planned for a NSW shoot too, however, after unseasonable rainfall and a wildflower bloom, he was forced him to shoot in the Namibian desert.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the fifth movie in the long-running series, will be released in cinemas on Thursday, May 23.
