The British husband of Australian star Margot Robbie has given fans insight into their seven-year marriage, saying they spend “24 hours a day” together.
As well as romantic partners, the pair work together as the powerhouse producers behind some of Hollywood’s biggest box office hits.
In a joint interview with Robbie, Tom Ackerley revealed the couple have an unconventional marriage in the Hollywood sense as they rarely spend time apart.
“It’s seamless,” he told The Sunday Times.
“We don’t have a toggle on, toggle off. It’s all become one thing.”
Ackerley joked that the only thing the pair argue over is the merit of the biscuits of their home countries and “whether Tim Tams or Penguins are better”.
Robbie, who was born in Dalby in Queensland, formed production company LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014 with Ackerley and their friends Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr.
The firm has since garnered a whopping 25 Academy Award nominations and 18 BAFTA nominations.
Robbie and Ackerley, who said he feels like an honorary Aussie, celebrated the UK launch last week of the Australian gin company Papa Salt at the high-end Harvey Nichols department store in London.
Made in Byron Bay and available in Australia nationwide, Papa Salt’s base is made from Queensland sugar cane and the ingredients are locally sourced.
Robbie told The Sunday Times that she found her drinks venture “really refreshing”.
“Movies are a crazy business where you are selling something that isn’t tangible, it’s an idea,” she said.
“You have no idea how much it’s going to make, who’s going to see it, if they’ll see it or how it will be received.
“This feels a lot more straightforward, it’s easier to predict things. You can lay this out on a spreadsheet in a way that you can’t lay out a movie idea. Our passions are movies and drinks, and now we’ve ticked them both.”
Robbie and Ackerley’s next producing project, Megan Park’s comedy My Old A**, is released in September and the pair are also overseeing Molly Smith Metzler’s Netflix limited series Sirens, which is based on her play Elemeno Pea.
Robbie is set to portray Sarah in the upcoming drama A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, which co-stars Irish actor Colin Farrell.
