Most of Hollywood was shocked when they found out Australian actor Julian McMahon had died after he was privately battling cancer.
Now, the coroner has revealed his official cause of death.
According to a Cremation Approval Summary Report from the Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office in Florida obtained by People.com, the 56 year old tragically passed away from lung metastasis as a result of head and neck metastatic cancer.
The death was ruled as natural, and McMahon’s remains have since been cremated.
McMahon’s family has publicly thanked those who have shown their support following the Australian actor’s death.
His family posted a black and white photo of the late actor on his Instagram account saying “Julian loved @vanmorrisonofficial... For all of those who loved Julian, thank you.”
The type of cancer McMahon sadly passed away from has still not been confirmed.
He is survived by his wife Kelly Paniagua and daughter Madison McMahon, who he shares with ex-wife Brooke Burns, as well as his siblings, Melinda, 58, and Debbie, 52.
McMahon died in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday last week and his wife, Kelly, confirmed the news on Saturday.
“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer. Julian loved life,” she said.
“He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans.
“His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.
“We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy.
“And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life.
“We are grateful for the memories.”
He and wife Kelly had been together for 11 years before marrying in Lake Tahoe, near California and Nevada, in 2014. It was his third marriage.
He was also married to Australian singer and TV host Dannii Minogue from 1994 to 1995.
Minogue has not commented on McMahon’s death since the shock news emerged.
Many Hollywood stars have paid tribute to the late actor including his co-stars on the film Fantastic Four, and Charmed including Holly Marie Combs Rose McGowan and Dorian Gregory.
Alyssa Milano also made an emotional request to fans of her show Charmed.
Milano, 52, took issue with followers using artificial intelligence in tributes to her late co-star.
“Charmed fans/accounts! I love and appreciate you so much but please stop using AI to fabricate emotion from Julian McMahan’s [sic] death,” Milano wrote via her Instagram Story.
“It is totally unnecessary when there are real moments you can use from his nearly 35 years in the public eye. And please be considerate to Julian’s grieving family and friends during this difficult time.”
He famously starred in Nip/Tuck, where he played Dr Christian Troy, and Charmed, where he portrayed Cole Turner and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his role.
Dylan Walsh, who was a lead character in Nip/Tuck, said he was “stunned” by his passing.
McMahon massed $A24.5 million before losing his private battle with cancer, multiple outlets report.
Born in Sydney, McMahon’s family has government ties in Australia as he was the only son of Sir William McMahon, a former Prime Minister, who served from 1971 to 1972. He was also leader of the Liberal Party.
His mother was Lady Sonia McMahon, who was an heiress, socialite and fashion icon.
McMahon latest roles in TV include his time on FBI: Most Wanted, and The Residence on Netflix that aired this year in which he played Stephen Roos, a fictitious Australian Prime Minister.
His final movie, which premiered at SXSW this year was The Surfer, a psychological thriller in which McMahon shared the screen with Nicolas Cage, where he walked the red carpet in March. He appeared more frail than the last time fans saw him on their TV screens.
Cage shared his reaction to the “deeply saddening news”.
“I spent six weeks working with Julian, and he was the most talented of actors.
“Our scenes together on The Surfer were amongst my favourites I have ever participated in, and Julian is one of my favorite people. He was a kind and intelligent man. My love to his family.”
