Australian rocker Jimmy Barnes revealed on Tuesday that he is being treated in hospital for bacterial pneumonia.
The singer said he would be cancelling his upcoming gig in New Caledonia as he fights the infection.
Writing on Facebook the 67-year-old said his band and his daughter would still be performing at the music super cruise Rock The Boat.
“I’m sorry to let you know that I’ve been receiving intravenous antibiotics over the last 36 hours to treat bacterial pneumonia,” Jimmy said.
“Unfortunately, this has stopped me travelling to Noumea to join Rock The Boat 2023 as planned.
“My band will still perform on board, together with my daughter Mahalia and other special guests.
“I’d like to apologise sincerely to everyone for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused, but the doctors have confined me to bed for two days.”
“The timing couldn’t be worse,” he added.
Jimmy said he would still be performing at By The C in Torquay on December 2, where he is the headline act.
Bacterial pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs following an infection. The air sacs in the lungs get infected and fill up with water which causes pneumonia.
Complications from pneumonia include respiratory failure, sepsis, lung abscess and death.
Jimmy’s latest health scare comes after he was forced undertake months of bed rest earlier this year after emergency hip surgery.
He had an operation in late 2022 after years of pain caused by half a century of “jumping off PAs and stomping around stages”.
Speaking at the time he said: “I’ve had niggling back and hip issues for years, but things suddenly got a lot worse over the last few weeks, and I’m now in constant and severe pain.
“As everybody knows, it’s against my religion to blow out gigs, but the doctors tell me I need an operation as soon as possible and it will really limit my movement for a few months.
“As much as it kills me to inconvenience everyone, I have to get this fixed so I can jump around onstage for another 50 years.”
