THERE was a reason Gabi Grecko and Geoffrey Edelsten tied the knot so quietly and quickly yesterday.
The pair were officially married at 2pm yesterday, just 10 hours before Grecko’s visa was due to expire, reports Mail Online.
“Yes, it’s true her visa expires at midnight, we were conscious of it when we decided to get married but arrangements were made long before that,” Edelsten told the website of their rush to the makeshift altar.
“It [the visa] was not a major problem. She’s on a travel visa and now has a bridging visa for permanent residency.”
The 72-year-old and his 26-year-old bride wed in a Chinese office in Melbourne, with Grecko reportedly saying, “Why am I here ... I’m not Chinese?”
But don’t think for a second that the pair were going to get married so quietly and without fuss.
“We are going to have sort of a second wedding, or a reception, in a few months where I’m going to design my dress and have more people there,” she said.
“But today we made it official, it’s been a long time coming.”
Grecko also said their initial plan to get married in Las Vegas was proving too difficult “with immigration and stuff”.
Grecko had been bragging about the upcoming nuptials on her Instagram account, announcing on Wednesday that she was to tie the knot on Thursday.
“By the end of Tomorrow I will be OFFICIALLY Mrs Gabrielle Grecko Edelsten,” she posted.
This is Edelsten’s third marriage, after Leanne (1984-1988) and Brynne (2009-2014).
