CALVIN Harris has broken his silence about his split with girlfriend of more than a year, Taylor Swift.
Following widespread reports yesterday that the high-profile pair had parted ways, the DJ and producer confirmed the news via Twitter.
“The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect,” he told his 7.49 million followers.
While Swift hasn’t commented publicly about the split, she did retweet Calvin’s comment.
The world-conquering pop star, 26, amicably split from her Scottish DJ beau, 32, after 15 months together, People Magazine first reported.
“There was no drama. Things just don’t work out sometimes,” People quotes an insider as saying.
The pair celebrated their one-year anniversary in March with a beach getaway dutifully displayed across their respective social media feeds.
E! Online quotes a source saying that Harris - real name Adam Wiles - was the instigator for the split.
“Taylor and Adam had no big blowout fight, but the romance just was not there anymore for them. Adam is the one that ended it. It was all done in a very mature fashion. Taylor is pretty upset but they are still in communication. Taylor was there for Adam with his accident and supportive.”
Calvin this week showed his face for the first time since being involved in a horrific car crash last month. He posted a selfie to Snapchat with a blunt caption that may be alluding to the split: ‘F**k this.’
Calvin released a statement after his accident: “Thank you so much for your messages and sorry to any disappointment I caused with the show cancellations,” he tweeted on May 27. “I’m feeling lucky and very grateful rn.”
So far, neither party have commented publicly on the split reports. Their pairing was the latest in a string of high profile romances for both Swift and Harris: Swift had previously dated One Direction star Harry Styles, Joe Jonas, actor Jake Gyllenhaal and singer John Mayer, while Harris dated singer Rita Ora for a year before an acrimonious public split in 2014.
