GRAMMY-winning singer Marc Anthony and his wife have announced that they are divorcing after a two-year marriage.
A brief statement said the decision to end the marriage was made mutually by Anthony, a New York-born singer of Puerto Rican roots, and Shannon de Lima, a Venezuelan model.
“After much consideration, we have mutually and amicably decided to end our two year marriage. We ask for privacy during this difficult process, and no further comments will be made from either one of us about this personal matter,” Anthony, 48, and De Lima, 28, wrote in a shared statement.
Anthony wed de Lima in 2014 at his residence in the Dominican Republic resort of Case de Campo. Last month, news broke of the couple’s split just hours after Anthony performed a duet at the Latin Grammy Awards with his ex-wife Jennifer Lopez.
It was the third marriage for Anthony, who has six children from previous relationships. In 2011, he divorced from pop star and actor Jennifer Lopez after seven years of marriage. His first wife was former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, who he married in 2000. They eventually divorced in January 2004 — three months before he married Lopez.
Anthony is also an actor, appearing in TV and films. He starred with Lopez in the 2007 film “El Cantante,” about the life of salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe and appeared in 12 episodes of acclaimed TV drama Hawthorne, which featured Jada Pinkett Smith in the main role.
“Marc is so busy with his career, touring and recording that he distances himself from his relationships without even knowing it,” an insider in the Spanish music industry told People. “Even with his wife in tow, she can feel like he is on another planet.
“Marc likes to have a woman at home but he also likes to live like a bachelor.
“This doesn’t work for very long.”
