LAWYER Laura Wasser is helping Angelina Jolie get divorced — again!
The 48-year old divorce lawyer acted for Jolie in her divorce from second husband, Billy Bob Thronton.
She rarely represents clients worth less than $US10 million and charges $US850 an hour, with a $US25,000 retainer.
Ms Wasser helped Britney Spears get custody of her children with Kevin Federline despite her public breakdown.
She has also acted for Denise Richards in her split from Charlie Sheen, Nick Lachey when he divorced Jessica Simpson, Maria Shriver in her separation from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Johnny Depp recently against Amber Heard, Ashton Kutcher in his split from Demi Moore, Ryan Reynolds when he broke up with Scarlett Johannsen, Heidi Klum in her divorce from Seal, and Stevie Wonder — twice!
She is labelled the “queen of dissolving marriages”, Ms Wasser’s first divorce case is believed to have been her own in 1993 during which she represented herself.
It appears she has always been destined to do her job. Her dad Dennis Wasser, also a lawyer, gave her the middle name Allison so her initials would spell “LAW”.
“My mum wanted to call me Rebecca,” she told CNN.
Ms Wasser is now not a huge fan of marriage.
“I don’t know that human beings were meant to mate for life or be monogamous,” she told Interview. “But, for me, the aspect of marriage that is troubling is that it’s a contract that is governed by the state, and I don’t want the state to have control over my personal affairs.”
Ms Wasser has two sons from two different men, neither of which she married.
She told The Telegraph that as long as celebrities keep getting married she is likely to have repeat clients.
“A lot of Hollywood is fantasy and when that idea of walking down the aisle in a beautiful dress or suit is so lovely, and you’ve got unlimited funds, why wouldn’t you want to do it time and time again,” she said. “They think: ‘So, the first one didn’t work out and the second one didn’t work out, but this one really is the one!’ I’m being glib, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that people love to get married.”
