John Mayer calls ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s birthday ‘the lamest day of the year’

TAYLOR Swift received warm birthday messages from her squad yesterday. But her ex John Mayer wasn’t as kind.

JOHN Mayer took to Twitter to call ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s birthday the “lamest day of the year.”

Far from using the social media site to post a celebratory message as Tay Tay turned 27, he updated his status to write: “Tuesday, December 13 may be the lamest day of the year, conceptually.”

Yet it seems the 39-year-old singer may have regretted his bitterness as he swiftly removed the message from his page, according to gossip website Just Jared, reports The Sun.

After his faux pas was widely reported, the Gravity hit maker defended himself on Twitter, insisting he meant “no shade.”

The pair dated from November 2009 to February 2010. As with a handful of her exes, the Shake It Off used their split as inspiration for her music and penned the track Dear John about him.

Opening up on her heartbreak it features the lines: “Dear John, I see it all now that you’re gone/Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with?/The girl in the dress, cried the whole way home, I should’ve known/Well maybe it’s me and my blind optimism to blame/Maybe it’s you and your sick need to give love then take it away.”

Taylor has since had a string of high-profile boyfriends — none of whom took a dig at their former love.

Yet at least Taylor, who recently split from British actor Tom Hiddleston, has her girl squad for support.

On her special day yesterday, model mate Gigi Hadid posted a sweet Instagram snap showing the pair hugging, with the words: “Happy Birthday to you T!! So inspired every day by what an incredible friend you are!!!! Love you and celebrating with you in spirit xx.”

Meanwhile Gigi’s fellow Victoria’s Secret Angel Karlie Kloss branded Taylor her “ride or die” as she too took to Instagram to share a snap showing Taylor kissing her cheek.

She added the sweet sentiment: “I feel blessed to count you as my friend, sister and partner in crime. Can’t wait to celebrate together very soon,” followed by emoji icons of a pizza and love heart.

Aussie actress Ruby Rose had clearly put some thought into her emotion-packed message.

She wrote to her pal: “What does one even begin to say about this incredible woman. Happy Birthday to one of the most incredible, loyal, loving and generous human beings I’ve ever met.

“@taylorswift you are an amazing friend and I wish you nothing but the most amazing day. You deserve so so much joy today and forever more, just like the joy you bring to others. xoxo.”
