Hugh Jackman is one of Australia’s most beloved celebrities, but it looks like some fans have begun to turn on him following confirmation of his new romance.

After months of rumours and speculation regarding their romance, Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman went public this week when they were seen holding hands.

The 56-year-old split with his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness back in 2023.

Although the split originally appeared amicable, some fans are not happy with the A-lister for moving on with his life.

Since the pictures of Foster and Jackman emerged, the Aussie star’s Instagram has been inundated with angry remarks from fans who have shared their “disappointment” with his actions.

“You truly are a disappointment to divorce your wife of 30+ years and the mother of your children. Just thought you were different. Ugh – just not going to enjoy watching you in anything ever again,” commented one.

Another remarked: “Thank you for being my idol from the age of 9. Thank you for being my first love too. But my fond trip to Hugh has to stop because of what you’ve done.”

“I used to think you were a good man,” said another on X, formerly known as Twitter, while another wrote: “I’m finally vindicated for not ever liking him. He is as fake as his friend Ryan Reynolds and Blake lively.”

Neither Jackman nor Furness have publicly commented on the rumours.

Reports intensified last year after Foster filed for “uncontested divorce” from her husband of 10 years, Ted Griffin, in New York County Supreme Court.

Foster and Jackman, who co-starred in the 2022 hit revival of Music Man, spoke highly of each other and of their Broadway run, which ran from December 2021 to January 2023.

While speaking to People Magazine at the 2024 Drama Desk Awards last June, Foster shared: “He’s one of the greatest guys ever, an incredible co-star.”

Last year, Furness shared how that journey has been for her, and what she’s learned since their shock split.

“[I learned] that I’m strong and resilient,” she said.

She also told Page Six at the screening for her new movie that she’s been “learning a lot about myself and I’m embracing evolution and growth.”

The actress told the outlet that it’s been a “year of evolution” for her that has been “scary” and “every other adjective.”

However, Furness told the outlet she was “grateful” it presented her an opportunity for personal growth.

She also revealed that she’s had close friends to lean on for support as she explores life as a single woman again.

“I say this to all women — your girlfriends are a necessity in life,” Furness said before adding that her children have also been “very supportive”.
