Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin has reunited with his on-screen mum in a heartwarming moment, shared 33 years after the film was released.
The US actor, 43, who played Kevin McCallister in the iconic festive film, joined US actress Catherine O’Hara, 69, as she supported him at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in Los Angeles on Friday, local time.
O’Hara, of Schitt’s Creek fame, played Culkin’s mother Kate McCallister, with the duo appearing in the first two films, which went on to become a six-film franchise.
In her speech, O’Hara spoke to the pressure a then 10-year-old Culkin faced as his star skyrocketed.
“This beautiful little 10-year-old boy was called a superstar, a money maker, one of the hottest leading young men by the world over. How does anyone survive that?” O’Hara said.
“I believe you would have to posses a certain quality, a gift. Your sense of humour, it’s a sign of intelligence in a child and a key to surviving life at any age.
“Thank you for including me, your fake mum who left you alone, not once, but twice, to share in this happy occasion. I’m so proud of you.”
In his acceptance speech, Culkin thanked his fiancee, former Disney star Brenda Song, 35, and said: “You’re not only the best woman I’ve ever known, you’re the best person I’ve ever known.”
He finished off his speech by reciting one of the most memorable lines from Home Alone, “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.”
Last December, Culkin welcomed his second child with Song, a baby boy named Carson.
The low-key couple kept the happy news under wraps, with word of the new arrival not coming out until this March.
The couple are already parents to a son named Dakota, who was born in April 2021.
Culkin and Song first met on the set of their film Changeland in Thailand.
The pair have been together for five years and got engaged in 2022.
When Song gave birth to her first child three years ago, they also tried to keep the news under-wraps.
When they eventually confirmed it, they released a short statement saying they were “overjoyed” to be parents.
