Celebrities are being blasted online for weighing in on the ongoing and tragic Israel-Hamas war – and now Aussie stars have gotten caught up in the backlash.

The world was left shocked this week when the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a brutal attack on Israel.

There have been reports they’ve taken hostages, people have been killed and residents are now left living in fear.

Israel’s military forces have responded to the attack, launching their own offensive strikes, with the death toll in the hundreds across both Gaza and Israel.

Famous people are now sharing their opinions, thoughts and concerns on the matter and people aren’t impressed.

They are very mad.

We’ve seen some big names like Jamie Lee Curtis, Gigi Hadid, and Kylie Jenner already weigh in – and the responses likely weren’t what they were expecting.

Curtis was forced to delete a post she did in solidarity with Israel because she accidentally included a photo of terrified Palestinian children in Gaza, who could be seen running from bombs being counter-launched by Israel.

Jenner, 26, decided to take a break from the selfies and got political for a minute, well, actually an hour.

She posted an Instagram story which featured a picture of the Israeli flag and included the caption.

“Now and always, we stand with the people of Israel,” the post read.

The post was deleted within an hour but now there are more people are writing “free Palestine” under her photos than there are accusing her of using Photoshop.

Hadid, who is of Palestinian origin and an advocate of the ‘Free Palestine’ movement, shared a lengthy statement on the conflict.

“I have deep empathy for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation; it’s a responsibility I hold daily,” she wrote.

She also said that she feels a great “responsibility” to her Jewish friends to make it clear she doesn’t endorse any “harm” to Jewish people.

Possibly in anticipation of the types of responses she would receive, the model turned off commenting on the post.

It is always odd seeing famous people react to big world events.

We saw it in the pandemic when Gal Gadot recruited her celeb pals to sing Imagine by John Lennon and Vanessa Hudgens went live on Instagram and shrugged off the idea of people dying as “inevitable.”

Usually famous people getting roused on for sharing their thoughts on big and important world issues is a bit of an American thing.

This time even the Aussies have decided to throw their two cents and, once again, it hasn’t been received well.

In news that may surprise all of us, the former stars of the mermaid show H20 Just Add Water have waded in to the conversation.

Aussie actress Phoebe Tonkin is currently being blasted online because she posted multiple Instagram stories, both in support of Israel and urging her fans to donate to feeding children in Gaza.

The backlash has been swift.

Tonkin’s content is usually fashion, selfies, cute photos with friends and now, under these harmless photos, there is a comment section filled with political arguments.

Someone commented that she should feel “shame” for posting in support of Israel, while another person accused her of “performative” activism.

Another wrote that she was “disappointed” in the actress and begged her to “educate” herself before adding that she was “brainwashed.”

“Where was all this advocacy when Palestinians were brutally murdered tortured and kicked out of there homes for so many years,” another person said.

Similarly, Aussie actress and Tonkin’s former co-star Claire Holt posted her support to Israel on Instagram, her social media has now been flooded with people calling her out.

“I remember when you said you didn’t want to speak deeply on complicated issues like last time Palestine was attacked,” someone accused.

Another called her post “disgusting”, with someone else accusing her of “ignoring” Palestinian people.

Our Aussies aren’t the only famous people weighing in on the ongoing and tragic conflict.

Sarah Paulson, Kris Jenner, Mark Hamill, Kerry Washington, Nina Dobrev, Sophia Richie, Alix Earle, Sarah Hyland, Noah Schnapp and Madonna have all shared their thoughts online and it hasn’t ended well for any of them.

Yes, Schnapp is that kid from Stranger Things and his comment section is now filled with people writing they plan to “unfollow” him because he posted support to Israel and others accusing him of having “no sense.”

Richie is in the same boat and now her Instagram has been flooded with people saying her post in support of Israel was “shameful” and that she’d “cancelled” her career with that political move.
