Pop legend Celine Dion is rumoured to be in the “final stages” of a comeback plan to perform in front of crowds again.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Celine Dion reportedly to reprise Las Vegas residency

Celine Dion is in the “final stages” of discussions to reignite her plans to return to her Las Vegas residency, according to reports.

The 56-year-old music legend delayed her Vegas residency in 2021 after suffering muscle spasms. The following year she was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome.

Dion has been in negotiations for several months with Resorts World for a comeback residency to be held in late 2024 or early next year, according to TMZ.

If it goes ahead, it’s understood the show would be short running.

“It’s basically a done deal. She’s doing it,” one insider told TMZ.

Another source said: “she has a passion for getting back onstage, and she’s gonna do it.”

The hitmaker’s previous Vegas show, A New Day, ran from 2003 to 2007, and was the highest grossing residency of all time.

The residency was originally earmarked for three years but was extended due to its popularity. In those five years, Dion performed to more than three million people across 717 shows.

It comes amid speculation Dion could make a long-awaited return to the stage at the Paris Olympics, in what will be her first performance since she revealed her devastating health battle, according to reports.

Rumours are mounting that Dion will be performing at the blockbuster opening ceremony.

If confirmed, it will be the first time the beloved star has graced the stage since she halted her touring schedule and stepped away from the spotlight after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in December 2022.

Dion arrived in Paris on Monday and is staying at the Royal Monceau hotel near the Champs-Elysees, where Lady Gaga, another potential opening ceremony act, was also spotted.

The French-Canadian singer signed autographs for excited fans outside the hotel amid reports in People that she will perform one song at the show.

Dion’s representatives have not yet confirmed if she will be at the opening ceremony, which will take place along the River Seine and begin at 7.30pm on Friday local time (3.30am AEST on July 27).

In her recent candid documentary, titled I Am: Celine Dion, the star gave an insight into the harrowing impact of her health issues.

She vowed in the doco that she would return to the stage “even if she has to crawl”.

Dion last performed live during her Courage world tour in New Jersey in March 2020 before her tour was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

In an April interview with Vogue France, Dion opened up about when she may sing live again.

“I can’t answer that… Because for four years I’ve been saying to myself that I’m not going back, that I’m ready, that I’m not ready,” she said.

“As things stand, I can’t stand here and say to you: ‘Yes, in four months.’ I don’t know... My body will tell me. On the other hand, I don’t just want to wait.

“It’s morally hard to live from day to day. It’s hard, I’m working very hard and tomorrow will be even harder. Tomorrow is another day. But there’s one thing that will never stop, and that’s the will. It’s the passion. It’s the dream. It’s the determination.”
