HE may have a swag of eight Grammy Awards but Usher says one of his son’s reminds him, “you’re not a great singer”.
The former coach on The Voice in the US says his nearly six-year-old son, Nayvid Ely Raymond, isn’t his biggest fan.
“He doesn’t care about what I do as much. ... He’s like, ‘I’m the star. Who are you? You sing?’’ Usher said.
“He told me the other day, he says, ‘You’re not a great singer,;’’ Usher said with a laugh, to which he replied, “What? I’m a great singer!’”.
However his older son, named Usher Raymond V, who is about to turn seven, tries to copy his dance moves.
“He’s seen me perform on tour in the past ... and most of the time it’s past his bedtime, but he’s just sitting there studying every move, every second, like laser focus. And then I’ll see him off by himself doing the moves.”
Last year, Usher Raymond V almost drowned in an Atlanta pool.
He dove to the bottom of the pool to retrieve a toy that his hand had become stuck in the drain.
Two contractors who were working at the house dove in and freed the boy and administered CPR.
He has two children with his ex-wife Tameka Raymond.
